There is a micro-play with a 71.1% win rate correlation. It takes under 5 minutes to execute. The window is clearly defined. And the vast majority of pub players never think about it.
Courier kills.
The Numbers
| Courier Kills | Win Rate | n |
|---|---|---|
| 0 kills | 48.0% | 200 |
| 1+ | 59.6% | 208 |
| 2+ | 71.1% | 38 |
One courier kill is an 11-point win rate boost. Two is 23 points above baseline. These are among the strongest discrete play correlations in the entire dataset.
The Vulnerability Window
The courier is vulnerable from 0:00 to approximately 5:00, when it reaches level 5 and gains a shield. That’s your window. Everything before the 5-minute mark.
The Cascade Effect
- Lost items. Often a bottle, tangoes, or a first component mid-delivery. A mid without bottle during laning phase is significantly handicapped.
- Lost gold. Whatever gold was riding the courier is gone entirely.
- Timing disruption. A carry suddenly 2 minutes behind on their core item. A mid without regeneration for a critical laning window. The enemy team is forced to adapt to a plan that no longer works.
Who Should Be Doing This
Mid is naturally positioned near the courier path and has the most access to intercept it early. Pos 5 in the enemy triangle area gets early opportunities. Pos 4 on rotation can pressure the courier while providing lane support.
Don’t wait for the perfect setup. Pressure the courier actively. Even failed attempts force the enemy to route items differently — which itself creates value.
How to Execute
- Buy a ward at 0:00 to have early vision of the courier path.
- Watch the courier move and position to intercept.
- If you miss the first delivery, try again at 2:00–3:00 when bottle delivery often happens.
- Even failed attempts are worth it — they force the enemy to courier items differently.
